Spanish companies on a business mission to Uzbekistan

The business mission to Uzbekistan is the result of joint efforts between ACIR and the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Spain, through its Economic Council established in July 2020. To date, this council has developed 8 practical sessions to promote business and investment opportunities in both countries.
The 3-day business mission allowed Iberian companies to present their investment projects and product/service commercialization proposals, alongside guided visits to production and logistics centers.
As a result of the meetings, multidisciplinary committees were established with Uzbek state entities and institutional organizations to execute an ambitious roadmap.
This document will include the exchange of commercial information, business opportunities, benefits for companies, and monitoring sessions to follow up on projects currently underway and those to be executed in the coming months.

Spanish companies in Uzbekistan’s strategic sectors

In recent years, the Uzbek economy has been characterized by diversification and the implementation of a modernization and internationalization plan for its industries. Within this framework, the participating Spanish companies were able to showcase the benefits of joint collaboration and the advantages of their products and services to their Uzbek counterparts.
  • Agrologistics: Given the country’s characteristics and its similarity to Spain regarding the agro-industrial sector, one of the first meetings was held with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. They highlighted the potential of Spanish production and the opportunities emerging for companies from that country. A presentation was made on Spanish projects for creating distribution, collection, and logistics centers to increase production process efficiency. Details were also shared regarding the ACIR project, which seeks to create an agro-industrial hub in the heart of Eurasia to allow a fluid transit of food products across all countries.
  • Healthcare and medical centers: Together with officials from the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the projects being developed by the country and the opportunities they represent for Spanish companies were analyzed. Discussions focused on modernization projects for medical institutions, the implementation of regional projects, and the exchange of best practices in the sector.
  • Solid waste treatment: A major meeting was held with the authorities of the largest solid waste treatment unitary enterprise in the Uzbek capital. ACIR and its partners presented innovations in solid waste treatment, alongside other solutions for the sector. As a result of these negotiations, they agreed to create a detailed roadmap to analyze the feasibility of projects using Iberian technology in the coming days.
Eduard Gulian, CEO of ACIR, highlighted the importance of the meeting and the positive reception from the Uzbek counterpart, who views Spanish companies as an important partner on the European continent.

“We are certain that meetings of this type are just the beginning of a long and fruitful investment and trade relationship between both countries,” Gulian concluded.
In the coming days, we will expand on the information regarding the various meetings held, their conclusions, and the short-term plans to follow.
